The Client

Abira Gems, a subsidiary of O’ Neils Affiliated, the largest gemstone wholesaler in Australia. The client is predominantly a wholesaler of precious and semi-precious gemstones and has a long-standing relationship with thousands of jewellers across Australia. This was about to change as the client had plans to enter the retail sector as well and offer gemstones directly to the general public.

The Job

The client approached our Web Development team and briefed us on their new project, Abira Gems.

Here are some of the main points of the brief: An eCommerce website with a classy/sophisticated design, ability to sync the products through their existing inventory software (Jiwa).

The most challenging part of this project was integrating Jiwa with the WordPress setup as there was no ready solution available and our teams of developers had to custom develop an Application Programming Interface (API) that could integrate the systems together.

  • Web Design – Using our systematic approach for web design we ticked off all the steps including wire-framing, user-flow diagrams, mock psd designs and finally started work on the custom theme (WordPress) that needed to be developed for the project.
  • eCommerce Setup – Using Jigoshop plugin we set up the eCommerce platform on WordPress.
  • System Integration- The client has a large inventory across different locations in Australia, therefore, they were using an inventory management software, Jiwa. Since there was no API available for the inventory software, our team of web developers created a custom API that allowed Jiwa to seamlessly connect with the WordPress setup and transfer stock related information in real time. After much trial and error and working closely with multiple parties including the Jiwa team and the server company, we finally achieved success.
  • Search Engine Optimisation- Once the store was launched we also worked on the SEO campaign for the client. 4 months into the campaign we were able to achieve a Page 1 ranking for 80% of the keywords that were shortlisted at the start.
  • Pay-per-click Advertising- Our digital marketing team also set up a PPC campaign specifically a Google shopping campaign in order to appear on top of search engines for specific gemstone related searches.
  • Re-marketing Campaign- The overall digital strategy also included the use of re-marketing as a targeting strategy. Our team of graphic designers put together some stunning banners that were used to target visitors who had left the website without converting into paid customers.

The Result

After more than 2 months of hard work, the project was launched and we had a fully functional eCommerce website with all the bells and whistles! And the stock was getting updated on the website with next to no human intervention.

Client’s Feedback

“The company not only met our expectations but far exceeded them. The website works perfectly as per the original system functionality document that was created at the start of the project. We were assigned a dedicated project manager and he kept in touch with us throughout the project and made the whole process pretty simple.”
